MPs Amend Majlis Elections Bill

TEHRAN, July 1 (Mehr News Agency) – Some articles on Majlis Elections Bill were amended on Tuesday by the chamber's legislators after they were rejected by the Guardian Council.

The articles on the bill were amended in a bid to meet the conditions set by the supervisory body.

Based on the amendments in Article 3 of the bill, the GC carries on the supervision on the Majlis elections. Article 4 of the bill, requires the Interior Ministry to identify the dates for the first and second rounds of elections and publicize them upon confirmation of the council.

According to the amending of article 5 of the bill, if the number of the candidates is equal or less than the required would-be representatives, the second round of elections will not take place and the representative or representatives will be elected in the by-elections.

The GC is obliged to declare its opinion regarding the approval or annulment of the elections not later than a period of 20 days after the announcement of the election results.
